Forest Travel on Wet, Muddy, or Snow-Covered Roads Can Cause Serious Resource Damage & Safety Concerns

PENDLETON, OR - With the winter snow receding, spring fever has many people excited to get outside and explore the region's forests.  Though snow may have thawed from the foothills, Umatilla National Forest officials are warning that most roads are still blocked by snow or snow drifts.  In addition, traveling on thawing, saturated, and muddy roads can result in resource damage and serious safety concerns, especially if visitors are unprepared.

US Justice Department Warns Dishonest Tax Return Preparers They Face Criminal Prosecution and Civil Injunction

WASHINGTON, DC - The US Department of Justice is warning that unscrupulous tax return preparers who prepare false returns will face civil and criminal enforcement.  In the last year, the department's Tax Division filed dozens of civil actions seeking court orders to shut down dishonest preparers who allegedly prepared false tax returns and in collaboration with US Attorney’s Offices prosecuted dozens of returns preparers who prepared false tax returns, including one in Blackfoot, Idaho.

LAPWAI, ID - There was an alleged hit and run accident near Lapwai on April 5th. A lady was heading north on US 95 near Red Duck Lane, when a southbound vehicle attempted to pass.

 

Pursuit Results in Multiple Charges for 21yo Spokane Man

GENESEE, ID - A 21-year-old Spokane man was taken into custody on multiple charges after he reportedly led law enforcement officers on a pursuit early this morning.  Jaysen Statton, also known as Jaysen Statton-Harper, was arrested for Felony Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and a felony warrant out of Spokane County.  He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving Without Privileges.  More charges are expected through Nez Perce County.
