Alzheimer’s Association Starts Memory Cafe in Clarkston

Event date: 5/28/2019 10:00 AM Export event

The Alzheimer’s Association of Washington State and Northern Idaho is working to expand dementia-friendly programs across Asotin County. The first Memory Café in Clarkston will be held on March 26th from 10am-12pm at the Jawbone Flats Café, 902 6th St. Clarkston, WA 99403. Café attendees can regularly meet every fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

Memory Cafés are intended for persons with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other forms of memory loss and their loved ones. The Memory Cafés present an opportunity for community members to meet in an informal environment for supportive socialization free of judgment. Participants will spend a couple hours together at a restaurant or café to experience a range of social engagement opportunities such as stimulating conversation or listening to music.

“Where else can you and your loved one go out and eat together, be totally relaxed, and know you are accepted before you even open the door?” says a caregiver and attendee of a local Memory Café.

There is no cost to attend the Memory Café; attendees are responsible for paying for their coffee or meals, if they choose to order something. For more information about the Clarkston Memory Café, please contact Lisa Barrett, Care Navigator, at 509-301-4107 or lnbarrett@alz.org.

Anyone with questions about Alzheimer’s disease and/or seeking information should contact the Alzheimer’s Association’s 24/7 toll-free helpline at 800-272-3900.  Experts are available to take calls from individuals concerned with their own cognitive health, as well as from family members and friends who may be concerned about a loved one and seeking resources.
