Capsized US Coast Guard Vessel Located

ALMOTA, WA - A US Coast Guard vessel that capsized yesterday just downriver from Boyer Park has been located.  The US Army Corps of Engineers found the 26-foot Aids to Navigation boat about 12 miles below Lower Granite Dam at around 11:30 a.m. this morning.

Five USCG petty officers who are assigned to Navigation Team Kennewick were servicing some navigation aids in the area of Channel Marker 46 when their vessel capsized.  That marker is near Boyer Park, which is approximately river mile 105.

A boater rescued the crew members and took them back to the Illia Dunes Boat Launch which was where they had put in.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Ali Flockerzi says the capsized vessel was located at river mile 95 and tied up to rocks on the shoreline.

"I'm not sure if that was the exact location where it originally began to capsize because they said it was floating downriver at about two knots," Flockerzi says.

A recovery crew was on their way to the location to analyze the situation and determine how to recover the vessel.  The cause of the incident remains under investigation.  There were no injuries.
