Lewiston Man Seriously Injured in Hit and Run

LEWISTON, ID - A 65-year-old Lewiston man was seriously injured Thursday in a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of 3rd Avenue North and US 12 near the Liberty Mart.  The Lewiston Police Department says John O'Neill, Jr. was struck by a hit and run driver and suffered broken bones, internal injuries, and severe skin damage.

According to a press release, Officers were dispatched to the Liberty Mart at about 10:02 p.m. Thursday night.  Evidence at the scene indicated that O'Neill was struck and possibly dragged underneath the vehicle which left the scene.

Officials say the driver has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.  Their name has not been released.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact them at 208-746-0171.


There was a second vehicle vs. pedestrian crash Thursday night in the same area. The Idaho State Police says at about 11:00 p.m., 42-year-old Toni McCann was walking in the crosswalk when she was struck by a Swift semi truck that was being driven eastbound on US 12 by 67-year-old Jerry Cox of Genesee. He was turning left onto 3rd Avenue North when the collision happened. McCann was treated and released at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. The investigation is still continuing.
