Montana Man Arrested For Grand Theft Auto, Attempted Escape, & Other Charges
OROFINO, ID - A 32-year-old Arlee, Montana man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he reportedly stole a pickup near Headquarters. The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office says Deputies responded to a report of a male subject, later identified as Shane Espinoza, acting strangely in a Pierce business at about 3:50 p.m.
"The reporting female advised she had left the business and the suspicious male was following her in a red work pickup and was headed toward Weippe on Hwy. 11. The female turned off of Hwy. 11 and the vehicle continued toward Greer. A Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle at milepost 19. The subject did not stop and speeds reached 68 miles per hour. At milepost 3.5 there were 2 Deputies waiting and the vehicle stopped and the subject got out with his hands up," the press release says.
It was discovered Espinoza allegedly broke into the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association Office near Headquarters, retrieved a set of keys, and then took a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 from the nearby storage area.
Espinoza was transported to the Clearwater County Jail where he is being held on suspicion of Burglary, Grand Theft Auto, and Eluding an Officer.
Espinoza is also being held on Attempted Escape. On Sunday at approximately 12:50 p.m., Espinoza allegedly attempted to escape from the Clearwater County Jail. He was unable to escape due to procedures put in place by the jail.
