WA Bill Would Ban Single-Use Plastic Straws
Proposed Start: July 2020
OLYMPIA, WA – A Bellevue, Washington Senator wants to remove single-use plastic straws from the state. Democratic Senator Patty Kuderer proposed Senate Bill 5077 Friday that would update the Revised Code of Washington to eliminate the straws used in restaurants and coffee shops.
Starting in July 2020, the local Health Department would be responsible for warning any violating restaurants for the first and second offenses. The third day and every day after, the business would be fined $25.00 up to $300 per year. The bill proposes that the Health Department that collected the fines would keep the fees to pay the cost of imposing the rule.
