Elk River To Study Lead in Drinking Water

DEQ "Loan" Of $79,500

ELK RIVER, ID – Elk River is taking out a low-interest loan of $79,500 to identify the amount of lead in the water.  The funds are coming from the ID Department of Environmental Quality and will not have to be paid back.

The study will see how much lead is making it to people’s drinking water.  A DEQ representative in Boise says the water isn’t the problem, the fixtures in people’s homes and connections at the street could have lead that might seep into the water.  Until the late 1980s a type of solder was used to connect some pipes that had lead in it.

The funds will also be used to find ways to fix any problems.
