Clearwater Paper Workers Rally During Negotiations

Negotiations Continue Today & Tomorrow

LEWISTON, ID - Clearwater Paper workers who are part of the United Steel Workers union and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are rallying on Mill road today.  They are in the process of negotiating a new contract with the company.

Picketers were in good spirits as were drivers passing by.  Easily 1/3 to 1/2 of everyone passing by honked their horns at 3:00 this afternoon.  Off-work employees held signs promoting their desire for affordable medical insurance and a good wage for hourly workers.

A Clearwater Paper Spokesperson says the two remaining points in discussion right now are just what the signs suggest: wages and healthcare.  She says Clearwater Paper is "committed to good-faith negotiations" during the process, and that the "long-term viability" of the company is also of high importance.

There is no stoppage of work during the rallies.  The people holding signs are doing so during off-work hours.

Negotiations between the parties continue tomorrow.
