Tribal Police, Deputies, Troopers Chase Down Backroads
Travis Responts Arrested
LAPWAI, ID – Nez Perce County Deputies, Tribal Police, and an Idaho State Police Trooper chased a man down last night who allegedly ran from them in someone else’s vehicle and did so without a license.
A press release from the Sheriff’s Office says at about 10:45 pm, 31-year-old Travis Responts was running from Tribal Police in Lapwai in a Ford Ranger. They stopped chasing him on Tom Beall Road. They later found him on Cottonwood Creek Road. Deputies tried to get him out by verbal command, but the driver took off northbound. Deputies followed the truck onto Gifford/Reubens Road toward Highway 12. At the intersection is where an ISP Trooper set down spike strips to stop the truck. After the driver ran over them, officers found the Ranger about a half-mile down Highway 12. The driver had gotten out and left on foot.
Officers found Responts during a search of the riverbank.
He was jailed, charged with Felony Eluding, Taking a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, and Driving Without Privileges.
No one was hurt in the chase.
