Lapwai Man Sentenced For Axe Attack

Victim Spent Months In Recovery

LAPWAI, ID – A Lapwai man will spend nearly 4 years in prison for assaulting someone with an axe because he thought the victim had stolen his TV.  74-year-old Otto Mark Homan was sentenced this week to 46 months in federal prison for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.  Homan will also serve three years of supervised release after prison.

Homan was indicted in October last year.  Court records show he walked to his neighbor’s house, attacked the victim with the hammer/axe by hitting him once in the head.  The documents say he was intoxicated at the time and mistakenly believed the victim had stolen his television.

The victim spent more than three months in medical care facilities recovering from his life-threatening injuries.
