Increased Lightning on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Resulted In Numerous Smoke Reports

KAMIAH, ID – Increased lightning over the past week on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests resulted in numerous smoke reports from the public, lookout towers and air patrols. Current fire activity includes several small fire responses. Both the Crab and the Barren Hill fires experienced steady fire activity and growth over the past week but have since seen reduced activity due to area rain. The forecast continues to call for hotter temperatures and dryer conditions, with rounds of thunderstorms later in the week. As always, we continue to support our partners with various responses.

New fires this week: 8 fires for 18 acres including the 17 acre Magruder Fire near Red River.

A new fire in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness will be monitored by the Moose Creek RD. The Ranger Fire is located near Ranger Lake (NW of Big Creek Lakes), not far from the Montana border.
