LCSC Basketball Schedules Released for 2019-20 Season
LEWISTON, ID – The Lewis-Clark State men’s and women’s basketball schedules were released on Wednesday and revealed some exciting matchups for both squads. On top of challenging conference schedules, the Warriors will face top NAIA opponents from around the nation, as well as multiple NCAA DI teams. Full schedules can be found at lcwarriors.com.
Both seasons will kick off at home on Oct. 21 with a matchup against Yellowstone Christian. The first home Frontier Conference contest is slated for Jan. 16 when the Warriors host MSU-Northern. Season passes are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 208-792-2471 or by visiting lcwarriors.com/tickets.
The Warrior women will face three NCAA DI schools before jumping into NAIA play. They will travel to Missoula, Moscow and Boise, Idaho to take on Montana, Idaho and Boise State, respectively. They return home to host the Twin Rivers PT Classic on Nov. 8 and 9.
The men’s non-conference schedule features many top teams in both the NAIA and NCAA, with all of those tough matchups coming on the road. The Warriors will take on Idaho on Oct. 29 before heading to Spokane to take on NCAA DI powerhouse Gonzaga. The Bulldogs made it to the Elite 8 in the 2018-19 NCAA Tournament and were ranked No. 1 in the nation during the season. The Warriors will face three of the top Cascade Collegiate Conference teams on the road, including in-state rival, College of Idaho, who finished last season ranked No. 5 in NAIA DII. They will also take on Corban and Northwest Christian who are coming off strong seasons.
“We will play three of the top four Cascade Collegiate Conference teams from a year ago all away from Lewiston,” men’s basketball coach Austin Johnson explained. “Those three teams combined to win nearly 75 percent of their games last year, and C of I is coming off of back-to-back NAIA National Semifinal appearances and will return the bulk of their roster.
“Obviously two of the games that really stand out are our exhibitions and we are very grateful to the staffs at Idaho and Gonzaga for getting us on their schedule. Our games against Idaho are always high energy games in a great environment,” Johnson said. “Gonzaga is without question one of the premier programs in the country, and that will be a great experience for our guys to battle with them for 40 minutes. These are great opportunities for our program to compete at the highest level and also help us prepare to play in hostile environments.”
The Warriors will kick off their final season of Frontier Conference play on Dec. 6 when they head to Helena, Montana to take on Carroll College. For the men, the contest will be a rematch of the Frontier Conference Championship and the NAIA National Semifinal.
Jan. 16 marks the conference home opener featuring the MSUN Lights and Skylights. Senior Day will be held on Feb. 22 at home against Carroll before the regular season wraps up at Montana Western on Feb. 29.
The Frontier Conference Championship will begin on Mar. 3 for the men and Mar. 4 for the women.
“This group will need to embrace the expectation and challenge of life on the road throughout the season if we want to have a chance to compete for a Frontier Conference Championship,” Johnson said. “I’m excited to see how we respond.”
