Warriors Garner Two Athlete of the Week Nods
WHITEFISH, Montana — After their outstanding performances last week, senior Gionni Brown of Lewis-Clark State volleyball and sophomore Carlos Davila of men’s golf were voted the Frontier Conference Defender of the Week and Golfer of the Week, respectively.
Davila took complete control of the Warrior Fall Invite at the beginning of the week, taking the individual title with an impressive 11-under, 205 (69-67-69). His dominant performance helped lead LC State to their first tournament win in two years.
“Carlos had a very good tournament at our home invite. He stepped in big as a leader on the team, especially on the mental side,” said coach Kyla Lien. “He was very confident and you could tell that filtered into the rest of the guys.”
To cap Homecoming Weekend, Brown backed her team and helped the Warriors to an upset win over No. 16 Montana Tech. Brown had two exceptional performances that 44 total digs, (6.29 digs/set), five aces, and seven assists. In the victory over Montana Tech, the libero tallied 26 digs for her 44th-career double-digit dig match.
“Gionni had to do some soul searching over this past week, and realign herself with where we are as a team and her role and contribution to Warrior volleyball,” coach Shaun Pohlman said. “This is not circumstantial but rather an indication of her deliberate efforts, and I am happy to see it helped her and the team receive some recognition this week.”
Warrior golf is in Spokane, Wash. today and tomorrow at the Lilac Invitational. LC State volleyball heads east to Iowa to take part in the Grand View tournament. They open with No. 24 Oklahoma City on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
