My Veteran Rocks Program Celebrates One Year Honoring Veterans
Classic Rock 102.9
Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.
This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars.
This Veterans Day marks the 1st anniversary of the “My Veteran Rocks” program. Classic Rock and Pacific Steel & Recycling have had the privilege of honoring a veteran in their community every month, selected from nominations sent in. A handful of these selected veterans, along with Danny Gandy, met for the first time to commemorate the anniversary of the program. Featured in the picture above from left to right; Charles “Fritz” Adams, Ray Austin, Jacey Marks, Danny Gandy and Dean Akkerman. Other selected veterans not featured are; Leo Key, Benjamin Smith, Brice West, Charles Adams, Cody Ensley, Sunset Allen, Nathaniel Nash, Brad Goeckner, and Brandon Page.
Classic Rock 102.9 and Pacific Steel & Recycling would also like to give an honorable mention to all the veterans that have been nominated throughout the year. Doug Worth, Tanis Hengen, George Hamblin, Wilfred Scott, Jodie Good, Jimmy Novak, John Mcnall, Patrick Santos, Todd McKenna, Michael Brooks, Bob Penkert, Christopher Alberts, Matthew Ditto, and Bill Kalinoski. We salute you.
We celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Nominate your hero today on Classic Rock 102.9 facebook.
