Car Fire on Linden in Lewiston

LEWISTON, ID - The Lewiston Fire Department responded to Linden Avenue for the report of a car on fire in a carport. The call was dispatched at 4:20 and the first engine arrived at 4:23. Upon arrival crews found a passenger vehicle fully involved in fire underneath a steel parking structure with no other vehicles nearby.
Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control and moved into the overhaul phase to make sure all fire was extinguished.
The owner of the vehicle was on scene and stated he was attempting to jump start the vehicle when the motor area caught on fire. The vehicle was a complete loss. The parking structure did sustain smoke damage and a fence near the vehicle was melted from the heat. No damage estimates are available at this time. The cause of the fire was deemed mechanical malfunction.
