LC State’s Annual Day of Service is Scheduled for Jan. 20

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark Valley Martin Luther King Jr. and Idaho Human Rights Day of Service, coordinated by Lewis-Clark State personnel and community members, will take place on Jan. 20, starting at 2 p.m.

The annual event, now in its 30th year, has volunteers perform a variety of pre-determined community service projects. LC State faculty, staff, and students play a large role in planning, organizing and volunteering for the event. The planning committee that coordinates the event is composed of LC State and YWCA personnel and community members.

This year, volunteers are asked to sign up the day of the event at the LC State Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and volunteer projects run at 2:30-4:30 p.m. Volunteers are then invited for an informal community meal at 5 p.m. at the CAH. Following the meal at 5:30 p.m., there will be a candlelight walk to the Lewiston YWCA, located at 300 Main St. At 6 p.m., there will be a brief welcome by YWCA leadership, a quick report, and a slide show on the day’s volunteer activities. There will also be a short panel discussion on the 30-year history of the event in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

The event wraps up with a brief talk on human rights and some dramatic readings on human rights by LC State theater students.

LC State support for the program includes the president’s and provost’s offices, the Social Sciences and Humanities divisions, CAH, LC Work Scholars, Faculty Association, International Programs, Institutional Development Fund, Native American Club, Native American, Minority and Veterans’ Services, Professional Staff Organization, Student Government (ASLCSC), and LC Service Corps. Also supporting the event are the Corporation for National and Community Service, Fourth Wall Gallery, IdaVend Broadcasting, Lewiston Baha’is, Lewiston Tribune, Colleen Mahoney, Nez Perce County Democrats, St. Gertrude’s Monastery, Sodexo, Washington-Idaho Volunteer Center, and the YWCA of Lewiston-Clarkston.
