Idaho County Received Confirmation Human Remains Found are from a Missing Man From 2017
Press Release from the Idaho County Sheriff's Office:
Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke and the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office have received confirmation human remains found January 5, 27 and 28, 2020, are those of John Randall French.
“Randy” French was reported missing by his family during a fishing trip to Riggins, Idaho in June of 2017. Following an investigation, deputies believed Randy crashed into the Salmon River near milepost 201.3 on US Highway 95, sometime shortly after 5:00 A.M. on June 30, 2017.
On January 5, 2020, a woman reported to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office she had found a human hand along the bank of the Salmon River on Pealy Loop Road, near milepost 220.5 on US Highway 95. A snowfall after the hand was recovered prevented a more thorough search of the area. The hand was sent to the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas for anthropological and DNA analysis.
Deputies returned to the area on January 27 and 28 and recovered more skeletal remains, which extended for about 100 yards downriver from the initial discovery. Included in the remains recovered were the cranium and mandible.
The cranium and mandible were sent to Dr. Richard Fixott in Redmond, Oregon for a forensic dental analysis. Dr. Fixott examined the remains on February 5, 2020 and concluded the remains were those of John Randall French. The remains will be released to the family in the following week.
Coroner Cody Funke and ICSO wish to thank the Center for Human Identification, NamUs.gov, and Dr. Richard Fixott for their assistance. Our thoughts and sympathy remain with the family of Randy French during this difficult time.
