LC State is Helping to Facilitate ‘Girls Run Together’ for Area Girls in Grades 3-5

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College Movement & Sport Sciences Division faculty and students are facilitating a new program for girls in grades 3-5 in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley called “Girls Run Together,” which will start on March 9 and go for 10 weeks.

Girls Run Together is part of the Girls on the Run, a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Girls Run Together meets twice a week in small teams with trained volunteer coaches to inspire girls and build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and physical activity.

The 10-week curriculum includes lessons that specifically target helping girls improve in competence, confidence, caring, character, connection and contribution. Girls learn specific skills and strategies such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions and resolve conflict. The coaches will be LC State faculty members and students who are trained to teach the lessons.

The 10 weeks culminate with a celebratory 5-kilometer walk/run.

The program will be held at Whitman Elementary School in Lewiston, but girls from all surrounding areas are eligible to participate. Registration for the program is $75 per girl and registration opens on Feb. 10. Financial assistance is available. All proceeds go to Girls on the Run.
