Nearly $1M In CARES Relief Funding Designated For LC State Students

Official News Release | Lewis-Clark State College

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College has received and distributed most of the $989,886 in student designated relief funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), college administrators reported on Wednesday.

As of May 18, administrators said that $748,434 had been sent to 1,561 eligible students. The federal relief funds are purposed to support students facing financial challenges related to COVID-19. Additional funds may be distributed to eligible students who have special circumstances.

“Spring was a very challenging semester and I am pleased we’re able to provide some financial assistance to students in need through these funds,” LC State President Cynthia Pemberton said. “One advantage of being a small college is that we can work closely with each and every student. We understand their needs and we understand their goals. Our students are resilient and they are eager to continue pursuing their degrees this summer and fall and these funds will only help.”

Full-time, degree seeking students who were enrolled as of March 16 were awarded $350, part-time degree seeking students who were enrolled as of March 16 were awarded $200, and Pell-eligible students were awarded an additional $150. Awards were also given to eligible students for lost wages and those who were displaced from campus housing. Students who were already enrolled in 100 percent online or remote courses when the national emergency was declared and those receiving faculty/staff tuition waivers were not eligible.

Remaining student relief funds have been set aside such that eligible students may apply for additional funding for significant extra expenses incurred as a result of the COVID-19 disruption. Students have been advised on how to apply to be considered for this funding.
