Washington Fire Morning Update

Fire Update | Northeast Washington Fire Information

The Colfax Fire, Manning Fire and Babb’s/Malden Fire started on Monday, September 7th. The Colfax Fire is contained. Fire crews have made significant strides in containing the Manning Fire through implementing control lines. The towns of Malden and Pine City experienced significant structure loss from the Babb’s/Malden Fire. 

The incident management team has been working with the Whitman County Emergency Management Team and Whitman County Sheriff’s Office to start the assessment of damage to the towns of Malden and Pine City. During these early stages of assessments, they are beginning to get an ideal of how many structures were damaged or destroyed from the fires. Damage assessments are apporixiamtely two-thirds complete, as of 1900 last night.

Today’s weather is expected to be sunny with E winds 5-10 mph with gusts 8-12 mph and temperatures reaching near 83.

Last Night’s Operations: Operations worked with limited staffing and mainly focus on patrol operations in both manning and Babb fire areas.

Today’s Operations:

  • Manning Fire: Control lines will continue to be strengthened today.
  • Babbs/Malden Fire: Continue to reduce threats around structures.

Safety Message: Pine City-Malden Road is currently closed from the Westside of Pine City to the Eastside of Malden. The communities of St. John, Sunset, Thornton and Ewan are at level 2 evacuations. Please refer to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Facebook page for more information on closures and evacuations.
