Weather: AIR QUALITY ALERT and HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK: Smoke

AIR QUALITY ALERT

Benewah-Bonner-Boundary-Kootenai-Latah-Lewis-Nez Perce-Shoshone. Including the cities of Plummer, Tensed, Sandpoint, Priest River, Blanchard, Careywood, Bonners Ferry, Moyie Springs, Porthill, Eastport, Naples, Coeur d`Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Worley, Bayview, Rathdrum, Athol, Moscow, Potlatch, Deary, Genesee, Juliaetta, Kendrick, Kamiah, Craigmont, Nezperce, Winchester, Lewiston, Lapwai, Peck, Culdesac, Gifford, Kellogg, Pinehurst, Osburn, Wallace, Mullan, Smelterville, and Calder.

Air Pollution Forecast and Caution has been extended by the following agencies through Friday morning:

Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in Lewiston

Smoke is expected to continue through rest of the week as an extensive area of smoke from the west moves into the region.

Air quality across the region could vary from moderate to hazardous. Open burning restrictions are in effect.

Due to wildfire smoke, health impacts may occur. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition.

 


HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK

Northern Panhandle-Coeur d`Alene Area-Idaho Palouse Central Panhandle Mountains-Lewiston Area Lewis and Southern Nez Perce Counties-Northeast Blue Mountains-Lower Garfield and Asotin Counties-Washington Palouse-Moses Lake Area-Upper Columbia Basin-Spokane Area-Northeast Mountains-Okanogan Highlands-Wenatchee Area-East Slopes Northern Cascades-Okanogan Valley-Waterville Plateau.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Idaho, North Central Idaho, Central Washington, East Central Washington, North Central Washington, Northeast Washington and Southeast Washington.

TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

Wildfire smoke will likely continue to create reduced air quality through most of the workweek. Some improvement may occur over the weekend as the chances of rain increase.

 

Lewiston Area:       

Today:  Widespread haze, widespread smoke, Sunny day, winds up to 6mph, partly cloudy night. High 80/ low 60.

Wednesday: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, light east wind, mostly clear night. 79/61.

Thursday: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, partly cloudy night. 87/61.

Friday: 40% Chance of showers, partly sunny day, mostly cloudy night. 81/58.

Palouse Area:

Today: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, calm wind, partly cloudy night. 79/50.

Wednesday: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, winds up to 6mph, mostly clear night. 78/50.

Thursday: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, partly cloudy night. 80/50.

Friday: 40% chance of showers, partly sunny day, mostly cloudy night. 72/47.

Prairie Area:

Today: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, wins up to 7mph, mostly clear night. 71/52.

Wednesday: Widespread haze, widespread smoke, sunny day, winds up to 7mph, mostly clear night. 75/54.
