Weather: AIR QUALITY ALERT and HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK: Smoke

Air Quality Alert

Benewah-Bonner-Boundary-Kootenai-Latah-Lewis-Nez Perce-Shoshone-Including the cities of Plummer, Tensed, Sandpoint, Priest River, Blanchard, Careywood, Bonners Ferry, Moyie Springs, Porthill, Eastport, Naples, Coeur d`Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Worley, Bayview, Rathdrum, Athol, Moscow, Potlatch, Deary, Genesee, Juliaetta, Kendrick, Kamiah, Craigmont, Nezperce, Winchester, Lewiston, Lapwai, Peck, Culdesac, Gifford, Kellogg, Pinehurst, Osburn, Wallace, Mullan, Smelterville, and Calder.

Air Pollution Forecast and Caution has been extended by the following agencies through Friday morning:

Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in Lewiston

Smoke is expected to continue through rest of the week as an extensive area of smoke from the west moves into the region.

Air quality across the region could vary from moderate to hazardous. Open burning restrictions are in effect.

Due to wildfire smoke, health impacts may occur. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or long condition.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Idaho, North Central Idaho, Central Washington, East Central Washington, Northeast Washington and Southeast Washington.

THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

Wildfire smoke will likely continue to create reduced air quality through most of the workweek. Some improvement may occur over the weekend as the chances of rain increase. There is a small possibility of thunderstorms Friday.

 

Lewiston Area:       

Today: Widespread smoke, increasing clouds, winds up to 5mph, mostly cloudy night. High 83/ low 62.

Friday: 20% chance of showers, mostly cloudy, winds up to 8mph, 60% chance of nighttime showers, mostly cloudy night. 84/60.

Saturday: 60% chance of rain, mostly cloudy . 75/56.

Sunday: Sunny day, mostly clear night. 79/53.

Palouse Area:

Today: Widespread smoke, sunny day, winds up to 5mph, mostly cloudy night. 80/50.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, winds up to 10mph, 70% chance of nighttime showers, mostly cloudy night. 76/48.

Saturday: 60% chance of rain showers, mostly cloudy day, partly cloudy night. 67/44.

Sunday: Patchy morning fog, sunny day, mostly clear night. 71/43.

Prairie Area:

Today: Widespread smoke, sunny day, winds up to 7mph, partly cloudy night. 79/55.

Friday: 20% chance of showers, partly sunny day, winds up to 9mph, 90% chance of nighttime showers. 76/51.

Saturday: 90% chance of Showers and possibly a thunderstorms, mostly cloudy night. 93/47.

Sunday: 20% chance of showers, mostly sunny day, mostly clear night. 69/45.
