Idaho County Sheriff's Office
The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the tragic homicide of LeAnna Maree Bailey, 58, in Elk City, Idaho. LeAnna had been living in the Elk City area since about May at her brother Troy’s property at 701 Wild Rose Lane. LeAnna was at the property to clean up and prepare the property for sale.
On September 17, 2020, Edmond Bailey reported his sister LeAnna missing. She was entered into the missing persons database. LeAnna’s death was believed to have occurred on the night of September 14th or morning of September 15th. Her body was found in the back of her red Saturn SUV off an embankment about 3 miles from her residence on September 19th, when a hunter noticed the car.
An autopsy was conducted at the Ada County Coroner’s Office on September 21st, which was attended by a Sheriff’s Office detective and Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke. LeAnna incurred a number of injuries by various means, any one of which could have caused her death.
Investigators have interviewed and polygraphed a number of people and witnesses in Elk City and the investigation will be continuing until a suspect is identified and charged. Detectives appreciate the cooperation the people of Elk City have extended during this investigation.
One of those cooperating with the investigation was Billy Jack Jones, 47, who took his own life on October 8, 2020 in Elk City at his residence. Jones had been interviewed several times, but was unable to complete a polygraph examination due to a medical issue. Jones had made an appointment with a doctor and was scheduled for another polygraph examination subsequent to medical treatment.
The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office is extremely disheartened and deeply saddened by LeAnna’s death and wishes to express our sincerest condolences to those who knew and loved her.
