Cougar Gold Cheese Praised by Bon Appétit Magazine
Most everyone from or around the Palouse has at least heard of Cougar Gold Cheese made by the WSU Creamery. Well now, it's even made it's way on to a prestigious food magazine called Bon Appétit.
Bon Appétit's magazine boasts over 6.5 million readers, and their Youtube channel is closing in on 6 million subscribers. The organization is quite the behemoth when it comes to a following. So the fact that Cougar Gold Cheese has received recognition from them is impressive in its own right.
However, it gets even better in the article. Author Jessica Kelly describes her experience with the canned cheese:
"One item I can safely say I never thought I’d nd is canned cheddar cheese, but here we are. I found a canned
cheddar cheese. It’s called Cougar Gold Cheddar Cheese. And it’s absolutely incredible."
She later goes on to give her review:
"At first it looked a little dry and crumbly for my liking. I assumed it would taste very salty and maybe even slightly gritty, a far cry from the smooth, sharp, tangy cheddars I love. I thought wrong. Once I popped a piece in my mouth, it started to melt a bit, creating a creamy, silky texture, with a nice sharpness to it. It was one of the best cheddars I’d ever had. It even excelled melted in macaroni and cheese, coating all my spiral noodles in a tangy, decadent finish. And, yes, it’s from a can. A can! Both shocked and pleased, I am 100% a card-carrying member of the Cougar cult now. And I think you should be, too."
So there you have it. If you haven't tried the Cougar Gold Cheese, it's $25 per 30 Oz. can (plus shipping) if you want it delivered; and the creamery has flavors such as Natural Cheddar, Smokey, Viking (Color me intrigued), Hot Pepper, Crimson Fire, and more!
I just may have to order myself some... Bon Appétit!
