Aircraft makes emergency landing in Whitman County

COLFAX WA- On 2/5/21 at approximately 1025 hours Whitman County Deputies received a report of an aircraft which had made an emergency landing on Lancaster Rd near Kackman Rd outside of St John, WA after experiencing engine trouble.
Deputies contacted the pilot, Steven Krauss a 58-year-old from Florida, on scene who told investigators he left Felts Fields airport out of Spokane WA at 0900 hours. Krauss told investigators as he was flying his 1977 Piper Arrow at 6000 feet altitude when the aircraft began experiencing engine problems. Krause was able to successfully land the aircraft in the middle of Lancaster Rd without damaging the aircraft.
Local residents assisted Krauss and towed the aircraft off the road to a secured location.
The FAA was contacted and advised of the incident and will conduct their own investigation.
