Man Arrested on First-Degree Murder Charges After Shooting his Ex-Son-In-Law

LEWISTON, ID - Friday evening, at approximately 5:56 P.M., the Lewiston Police was contacted about a shooting that had taken place at the Lewiston Rosaures parking lot. The caller reported that her brother had been shot in the parking lot. Officers arrived within two minutes of the shooting and detained the suspect who had stayed near his vehicle.
The victim, 40 year old John Allen Mast, was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where he would eventually succumb to his injuries. The suspect, 67 year old James Robert Brashear, was arrested and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail for first degree murder.
The initial investigation revealed that Brashears was upset over some custody issues involving his daughter and ex-son-in-law, Mast. Mr. Mast showed a North Dakota address but was thought to be living in Lewiston. Brashears shows an address in Winchester, Idaho.
