2/15/2021 | Alisha Alexander | Sports Information Director

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a strong week for Warrior Athletics that resulted in 13 victories for the department, three student-athletes emerged as Cascade Conference Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Athletes of the Week. Cross country’s Cole Olsen and women’s basketball’s Abbie Johnson each earned their second awards of the season, while baseball’s Tallon Thomason earned his first nod as a Warrior.

Cole Olsen – Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Olsen dominated in the snow on Friday when we won the LC State Winter Invitational 1 by 87 seconds. His time of 24:01 is the second-fastest time by a senior in the program record books. The Clearwater, Idaho native did not let falling snow and 20-degerees temperatures slow him down as he led the Warrior men to their second team victory of the season.

LC State Cross Country hosts the LC State Winter Invitational 2 at the LC State Cross Country Trail on Feb. 26. The meet will be the final tune up for the Cascade Conference Championships on March 26, which will also be held in the Lewiston Orchards.

Abbie Johnson – Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Johnson had one of the best weekends of her career in the two-game set against NCAA DII Montana State-Billings. The senior led the No. 24 Warrior women to victory in Friday’s contest with a career-high 26 points. She also grabbed eight boards and had four steals while draining 13 shots from the foul line. In game two, Johnson made a career-best 10 field goals. She filled up the stat sheet with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. The Cashmere, Wash, native shot 53.3 percent from the floor and averaged 24 points per game.

The LC State women turn their attention to the Cascade Conference Playoff starting Wednesday. The Warriors will host the College of Idaho in game one of a best-of-three series. Game two will be played in Caldwell, with the if-necessary game three location being determined by a coin flip.

Tallon Thomason – Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Thomason earned his first accolade as a Warrior after a stellar outing out of the bullpen for No. 24 LC State. The senior transfer took over on the mound in the eighth inning and finished the game in the 11th to help LC upset No. 19 Benedictine Mesa in extras. The Las Vegas native struck out five in his four innings and did not allow an earned run. He earned his second win.

LC State will take a two-week break before hosting Oregon Tech on Feb. 27 and 28 to open Cascade Conference play.
