Both LC State Basketball Teams Named CCC Team of the Week after Capturing Conference Titles

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Both Cascade Conference Championship Tournament trophies handed out on Sunday are coming back to Lewiston. In their first seasons in the CCC, both Lewis-Clark State Basketball teams clinched the conference’s automatic bid into the national tournament after defeating College of Idaho in Caldwell on Sunday to claim the conference titles. In doing so, the two teams were named the Cascade Conference Under Armour Teams of the Week for February 15-21.
The No. 24 Warrior women made quick work of the Yotes on Sunday (97-66) after a slow start in Thursday’s Game 1 victory (56-40). Kiara Burlage led LC State in both contests. She notched a double-double in game one with 17 points and 11 rebounds, then totaled 15 points and nine boards on Sunday. Abbie Johnson also had a strong series with 15 points and six steals on Thursday, and 14 points and nine rebounds on Sunday. LC State improved to 12-5 on the season.
No. 4 LC State Men’s Basketball battled to a hard-fought 74-71 victory over the Yotes on Thursday in Lewiston, before capturing the title with an 80-71 win on Sunday. This marks the third year in a row that the LC State men have captured the conference tournament title, and the first in the CCC. The Warriors dethroned College of Idaho after three consecutive conference championships. Damek Mitchell led the Warriors in both games with 19 points on Thursday and an impressive 30-point performance on Sunday. Trystan Bradley notched a double-double on Sunday with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The LC State men improved to 16-1 on the season.
Both teams await the March 4 announcement of NAIA Opening Round locations and pairings. The Opening Rounds will take place on March 12 and 13 before the tournaments move to Sioux City, Iowa for the women, and Kansas City, Mo. for the men.
