Three Warriors Earn Cascade Weekly Honors
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three more Warriors earned conference weekly awards on Monday, with baseball’s Brock Ephan, track and field’s Clayton VanDyke, and golf’s Lauren Hamm all being named Cascade Conference Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week.
Brock Ephan – Baseball Player of the Week
Ephan was named the Cascade Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after another big weekend at the plate. He knocked in 13 runs in four games, including four in each of the first two games.
The senior slugged 1.190 with a .524 batting average. Of his 11 hits, five were doubles and three were home runs. Ephan scored eight runs and had an on-base percentage .565.
Warrior Baseball will host the Cascade Conference Tournament May 8-9 at Harris Field.
Clayton VanDyke – Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
VanDyke had a pair of stellar performances at the Bucs Scoring Invitational on Friday. The senior from Vernal, Utah won the 800m and hit an automatic-qualifying standard. His time of 1:52.23 is currently the sixth-fastest in the NAIA.
The All-American also anchored the 4x400m relay team that set the program record with a second-place finish at the event. VanDyke, along with Sean Spencer, Ike Hopper, and Christian Bothwell, ran a time of 3:22.78. This is the second time VanDyke has earned the outdoor award.
LC State Track and Field will compete at the Whitworth Twilight on May 5 in Spokane.
Lauren Hamm – Golfer of the Week
The Cascade Conference Golfer of the Year won the individual title at the Cascade Conference Championships on Tuesday. Hamm, a senior from Ferndale, Wash., shot a 1-over, 73 in the first round and followed up with an even-par, 72 to wrap up the tournament.
Hamm won the tournament by five strokes and qualified for nationals as an individual. This is the second time she has earned the award.
The lone representative for Warrior Golf will head to Oklahoma, City, Okla. for the national tournament on May 25-28.
