Plane Crashes into Fence at Lewiston Airport Wednesday Afternoon

Lewiston Airport Press Release

LEWISTON, ID - Yesterday afternoon a small aircraft had a slow speed crash off of Taxiway C while taxiing for take-off. Pilot Justin Gibbins was the sole person on board and reported no injuries.

Mr. Gibbins reported that the aircraft, a Cessna 172, was rented from Northern Air in Bonner’s Ferry and stated the nose wheel made a rattling sound just before the aircraft turned hard right and went down an embankment into the airport fence, sustaining substantial damage to the wing, prop and nose wheel.

The Lewiston Nez Perce County Regional Airport ARFF, Lewiston Fire Department, and LWS Airport Operations crews responded immediately to the scene. Taxiway C was reopened within 2 hours.

In a press release, Airport Director, Michael Isaacs stated, "I am thankful that no one was injured.  Lewiston Nez Perce County Regional Airport has a quick-acting and professional Air Traffic Control Tower, experienced ARFF and Operations crews as well as a great General Aviation community that helped make this event seamless."

NTSB will be conducting an investigation into the accident.
