Reports of One Looter in The Waha Fires

Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office

Since the Snake River Fire Complex started last week the Sheriff’s Office has taken one report of potential looting in the Waha area.

The Sheriff’s Office became aware of a suspicious vehicle believed to be looting homes. The homeowner observed a suspicious vehicle in the area. Deputies had already stopped the suspicious vehicle and identified why they were in the area.

As of this morning, there have been no additional reports made and no one has reported any items missing or houses broken into. The Sheriff’s Office was made aware of social media complaints about looting and we want to make it very clear we are out here protecting the community.

“Our deputies are patrolling the area, checking on evacuated houses, and stopping suspicious vehicles,” said Sheriff Bryce Scrimsher. “If anyone dares to try and take advantage of this situation by stealing, let this be a warning to you. My deputies are good, and they will not leave any stone unturned to bring you to justice. We will find you”,

If anyone sees suspicious vehicles or persons, you are encouraged to call 9-1-1 or the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number, 208-799-3131.
