Palouse Plein Air Award Winners Announced

MOSCOW — Artists from across the Pacific Northwest gathered last week to celebrate the opening of the Palouse Plein Air exhibition at Moscow Contemporary, Fri., Sept. 17.
Artists from Troy to Spokane and Othello to Providence, Utah gathered to revel in the beauty of the open air.
The exhibition at Moscow Contemporary features 114 artworks created during the outdoor painting period between Sept. 9 and Sept. 16. Over 50 artists participated in this year’s event from Idaho, Washington, and Utah. Artists painted on-site in Latah, Nez Perce, Whitman, and Benewah counties.
This year’s guest juror was Jared Shear, an accomplished Montana-based Plein air painter. Shear adjudicated the exhibition and awarded prizes to the top artists. This year’s award winners included:
1st Place- Complimentary sunset by Emma Woolstenhulme
2nd Place- Hay Waves by Michael J. Lewis
3rd Place- Wanderer by Deon Douglass
Best Palouse- View from Prune Orchard Road by Kitty Bendixen-park
Best Downtown- Crybaby Café by Rob McPherson
Best Historical- Forney Hall, the University of Idaho by Matthew Brehm
Best Sky- Sheep Creek by Virginia Shawver
Student Award- Mountain View Road by Sam Chadwick
Construction passed the Arboretum Barn by Seth Thomas Spencer
Honorable Mention- Palousey by Carol Maddux
For Penny by Lindsey Davis Johnson
City Purchase Award (determined by City Staff)- Palouse Evening by Ed Robinson
