Nez Perce County Sheriff Warns Individuals of Phone Scams in the Area

Nez Perce County Sheriff

LEWISTON - On Saturday, November 13, at 2:45 p.m., a Deputy with the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office took a call from a county resident stating they had been scammed out of $2800. The resident stated she had taken multiple calls from a male claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House.

According to the NPCO, the male called and requested multiple transactions to be entered into the sweepstakes, however, requested these transactions in gift cards. The resident stated the male was very convincing and had information that made her believe it to be real.

The Sheriff's Office would like the public to be aware of this current scam. It would also like to remind the public that any sweepstakes that request money are usually a scam, especially if they are requesting gift cards. If you are unsure of a call or request, it is generally better to not give out any information and contact the Sheriff's Office with any questions.
