Idaho County Sheriffs Office now a Hotspot for Scammers

Idaho County Sheriffs Office

Idaho County residents please be aware of scammers. Our area has been targeted and we've had several residents fall victim to scammers. The scams are coming via telephone, mail, and the internet.

Never give your personal information over the phone. This includes your full name, date of birth, and social security number. No legitimate agency will ask you to send them money via cash cards, Western Union, etc.

Officers will never call you and tell you that you have a warrant and then give you instructions on how to take care of it with gift cards or Western Union.

Idaho County Sheriffs Office has recently had IRS scams, warrant scams, scams targeting sex offenders, people pretending to be family members in jail needing bail money, and parking ticket scams. These scammers are very persistent and manipulative. We understand the fear they use to try and get what they want, but we want you to be aware and not fall for their tactics.

Scammers also clone phone numbers. It may look like a call from a number you recognize, but not really be from the number that appears on your caller ID. If you have doubts about a legitimate call, hang up. Look up the number of who called you (don't rely on your caller ID) and call them.

If you believe you've been a victim of a scam, please call (208)983-1100 option 0 and speak to a dispatcher.

If you've received a scam call and have not given them any information, you can report it to the FTC at (877)382-4357. They collect data on the scams that are being circulated to try to prevent others from falling victim.
