Washington Health Benefit Exchange Lowers Assessment Rate

OLYMPIA, WA - The Washington Health Benefit Exchange has announced that it is lowering its carrier assessment rate by 55 percent, from $7.46 to $3.36 per member per month, on all 2019 health plans purchased through Washington Healthplanfinder.

The Exchange Board acted to reduce the assessment for carriers offering Qualified Health Plans (QHP) through the state’s online health marketplace during a special meeting.

“The financial burden of purchasing health insurance is being felt by many Washingtonians,” said Pam MacEwan, CEO of the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “The ultimate goal in reducing the carrier assessment on 2019 health plans sold on Washington Healthplanfinder is to lower the overall cost of premiums and help make coverage more affordable for our customers.”

UTC Invites Public to a Comment Hearing Regarding Proposed Merger Between Avista & Hydro One Limited

OLYMPIA, WA - The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission would like to invite the public to a comment hearing regarding the proposed merger between Avista Corporation and Canada-based Hydro One Limited.

In September 2017, Avista and Hydro One filed a joint application with the Washington state Utilities and Transportation Commission to approve the companies’ proposed merger agreement.

Under the companies’ original proposal, Avista would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Hydro One, an investor-owned electric transmission and distribution utility headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Avista would maintain its existing corporate headquarters in Spokane, Washington, and would continue to operate in Washington under the same name, management team, and employee structure.

E-Cycle Washington Entering its 10th Year

SPOKANE, WA - E-Cycle Washington, a “product stewardship” program where electronics manufacturers would set up and pay for a system to ensure their products were recycled at the end of their useful lives, is entering its 10th year. The program's stats are staggering with 350 million pounds of electronics recycled – equivalent to the weight of 11,000 recycling trucks, 26 million pounds of lead recovered – keeping tons of the toxic metal out of the landfill and the environment, and 323 collection locations, covering every county in Washington.


LCSC Will Hold Discussion Panel on Energy Conservation

LEWISTON, ID - There will be a panel discussion held at Lewis-Clark State College on energy conservation in facilities to help local industries and businesses reduce utility costs. This discussion will be held on April 30th in Room 130 of Activities Center West which is located between the Activity Center and Student Union Building beginning at noon.

The panel will discuss utility rebates, AHRAE 90 (energy standard for buildings), building automation systems, life cycle costs, thermal storage and more. Many of the rebates and rules discussed will be specific to commercial facilities in the Quad Cities area.

31st Annual Environmental Awareness Days

LEWISTON, ID - The Nez Perce Soil and Water Conservation District will host its 31st annual Environmental Awareness Days May 1st through the 2nd at Hell’s Gate State Park.

From the NPSWCD:
Students rotate through 9 natural resource stations set up throughout the park including conservation, fisheries, biocontrol, forestry, soils, livestock, agriculture, wildlife and a nature walk. Students receive hands on experience as they learn about the life cycle of a salmon,discovering what conservation means, examine wildlife pelts, skulls and more.
