BOISE – March went out like a lion, but so far, Idaho drivers have faced much better conditions at the pump in April.  According to AAA, the Gem State’s average price for regular held steady at $3.06 per gallon this week, while the national average decreased by a penny.  In fact, 40 states saw prices fluctuate by a penny or less.

Virtual Trauma and Resiliency Symposium is April 16 at LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho – A Lewis-Clark State College Trauma and Resiliency Symposium will take place virtually Friday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration for the event is free.

The symposium will feature sessions that cover a variety of educational and social topics. It is sponsored by the college’s Student Organization of Social Workers, the Social Work program, the Education Division, and institutional development grant, and the LC Valley Resiliency Coalition.

Sunday Shooting in Seattle Leaves Three Men Injured, and a 2-Year Old in Critical Condition

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Police Department is still investigating a shooting that took place Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of an Auto Zone, that left three men injured, and a 2-year-old little girl in critical condition.

College of Science Student Tests New Tree-Ring Analysis Technique

The Grangeville-native partnered with the Department of Geography and Geological Sciences’ Grant Harley and doctoral student Ben Spie to test the “blue light intensity” technique on deciduous trees. Spie collected cores from Engelmann spruce and aspen in southern Idaho. They chose to focus on aspen because these trees are in decline in southern Idaho and other parts of the Rocky Mountain states. Asker prepared more than 380 cores before the team tested the blue light intensity technique, using the spruce cores as a comparison.

The bloodiest four years in American history begin when Confederate shore batteries under General P.G.T. Beauregard open fire on Union-held Fort Sumter in South Carolina’s Charleston Bay. During the next 34 hours, 50 Confederate guns and mortars launched more than 4,000 rounds at the poorly supplied fort. On April 13, U.S. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort. Two days later, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation calling for 75,000 volunteer soldiers to quell the Southern “insurrection.”

State teams with Premera Blue Cross to invest $2.24 million to increase rural mental health crisis care capacity

OLYMPIA, WA --- The Washington State Department of Commerce today announced $2.24 million in capital grants to three behavioral health care providers across the state. Funding is provided through an innovative partnership with Premera Blue Cross – the first of its kind in Washington state - and will place needed capacity for health crisis stabilization care into rural communities.
