Updates on Fires on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests

GRANGEVILLE/KAMIAH, ID - The Hanover Fire, which is in the Gospel Hump Wilderness, is now 13,710 acres and 35% contained.  It is burning in grass and timber south of Grangeville and northeast of Riggins.  The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest brought in Dave Bales’ Type 2 Southwest Area Incident Management Team 4 to assume command of the fire at 6:00 p.m. yesterday.

Local Computer Business Victim of Phishing Scam

LEWISTON, ID - Lewiston Police are warning area residents about a phishing scam that has spoofed the phone number of a local computer business.  Several people have received calls from a number belonging to The Computer Guy, but when they answered their phones they found it was a credit card scam.

"The Computer Guy has nothing to do with this scam, they are using his number to try and get local citizens to answer their phones," LPD says.

Valhalla Burglary Suspect Arrested

PULLMAN, WA - Pullman Police arrested a 22-year-old man yesterday on suspicion of burglarizing his former employer, the Valhalla Bar and Grill, on July 30th.  Following the alleged burglary, employees at Mr. Z's Casino in Pullman had reported a male subject gambling with money that was bundled in a unique way, identical to money that had been taken from Valhalla.  Stuart H. Schmidtke was charged with 2nd-Degree Burglary, 2nd-Degree Theft, and 3rd-Degree Malicious Mischief.

Idaho Public Utilities Commission has Scheduled Workshops Regarding Avista's Proposed Rate Increases

BOISE, ID - The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has scheduled workshops in Lewiston on Wednesday, August 30th and Coeur d'Alene on Thursday, August 31st, regarding Avista's proposed rate increases for electric and natural gas service.

This workshop will provide customers with a summary of Avista’s application and information about how the Commission generally evaluates and decides a case.

Lewiston Man Charged With Rape Following House Party Incident

LEWISTON, ID - A 24-year-old Lewiston man has been arrested for allegedly raping a female who officials say was too intoxicated to consent to sex.  According to court documents, bond for 24-year-old Henry Zubin Warden was set at $30,000.  He is charged with Felony Rape-Prevented from Resisting by Infliction of Bodily Harm, Intoxicating Substance, or Anesthetic.

Woman Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on 21st Street

LEWISTON, ID - A 19-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision in the 1800 block of 21st Street at about 7:58 p.m. last night.  According to the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Ransom Story reportedly was distracted by his dog and failed to see Meredeth Hibbard's 2009 Chevy Malibu stopped for a red light.  His 1992 Nissan Sentra rear-ended her car.

Lewiston Woman Injured in Pickup vs. Pedestrian Collision

LEWISTON, ID - A 45-year-old Lewiston woman was injured in a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in North Lewiston at about 7:23 p.m. yesterday evening.  According to the Lewiston Police Department, a 2014 Dodge pickup driven by 55-year-old Michael Turner of Lewiston was traveling westbound on 3rd Avenue North and was attempting to turn south onto US 12.  Michelle Osborn was reportedly walking westbound against the crosswalk light trying to cross US 12 when Turner struck her.
