Local Woman Named Ms. Idaho Plus America; Will Take Part in National Competition

LEWISTON, ID - A local resident has been crowned Ms. Idaho Plus America and will be competing this summer in the Miss Plus America Pageant.  Since 2011, 50-year-old Karly Rose is the only Lewis-Clark Valley resident who has been crowned with one city, four state, and four national titles.

Avista Requests Electric & Natural Gas Rate Changes in Washington for Recovery of Costs for Power Supply & Investments in Infrastructure

SPOKANE, WA - Avista has filed two requests with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to recover costs related to power supply as well as infrastructure, system maintenance, and technology.

"Our customers expect their energy to be there when they need it, and so do we. To meet these expectations, we're continually investing in our systems in an effort to maintain reliability and deliver value, at a reasonable cost for customers," according to Avista Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Scott L. Morris.

Three-Fourths of Idaho’s Cities Grew in 2016; Lewiston Grew by 0.7%

BOISE, ID - Three-fourths, or 148, of Idaho's cities grew in population last year according to estimates released today by the Idaho Department of Labor.  The fastest-growing city was Meridian with a population increase of 4,122.  Only 30 communities lost population, although the losses were minimal, officials say.  Grangeville experienced the largest drop with 19 fewer people.  Lewiston's population grew by 0.7% - 231 people - to 32,872.  The remaining 22 communities saw no change.

Lewiston Man Seriously Injured While Trying to Stop Runaway Pickup & Trailer

LEWISTON, ID - A 44-year-old Lewiston man was seriously injured this morning when he was run over as he attempted to stop his runaway pickup and utility trailer.  The owner, identified as Keith Wassmuth, tried to jump onto the pickup and get it stopped as it was traveling toward the intersection of 25th Avenue and 8th Street.  He is currently listed in serious condition.

Improved Salmon Counts Could Allow Reopening of Some Chinook Fishing

LEWISTON, ID - Idaho Department of Fish and Game Commissioners will meet on June 2nd to review fish counts and consider fishing seasons for Chinook salmon.  Officials say migration conditions in the lower Columbia River and a late run have challenged the agency's normal process for setting seasons.  Fisheries managers closed the spring/summer Chinook season as a precaution on May 24th on all rivers, except Hells Canyon, due to low numbers of Chinook counted at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River.

Reward Offered For Information About Shooting of Pelicans in Clarkston

CLARKSTON, WA - The Asotin County Sportsman’s Association is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to an arrest of the suspect(s) responsible for the unlawful poaching of three American White Pelicans in the Clarkston area.  The birds were found in shallow water of the Snake River near the Red Wolf Crossing Bridge on May 1st.

Two Juveniles Injured in Collision Near Genesee

GENESEE, ID - Two male juveniles from Genesee were injured in a one-vehicle rollover collision Wednesday afternoon.  The Idaho State Police says a 1990 Ford Ranger was traveling eastbound on Martinson Road when the driver lost control and the pickup rolled at about 5:03 p.m.

"The driver was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, a juvenile male (Genesee, ID), was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Both subjects were transported to Gritman Hospital," a press release says.

OROFINO, ID - The alleged murder of a 23-year-old Orofino woman Monday evening centered around a boyfriend that the victim and alleged suspect had in common, according to Clearwater County Court documents.  Jessica L. Colpitts is being held in the Clearwater County Jail on a $500,000 bond after being arrested last night and charged with 1st-Degree Murder.

Culpitts is accused of knocking on the door of a residence in the 12000 block of Laqa Avenue and immediately shooting Samantha S. Fignani in the pubic area with a .410 shotgun that is described in court documents as "sawed off."  The incident happened at about 7:23 p.m. Monday.  Colpitts has reportedly denied doing the shooting, officials say.

Lewiston Man Found Not Guilty of Sexual Contact With Elderly Nursing Home Resident in Asotin County

ASOTIN, WA - A 44-year-old Lewiston man who had been accused of having sexual contact with an elderly nursing home resident in Clarkston was found not guilty today by an Asotin County Superior Court jury.  Brian J. Turner had been charged with Indecent Liberties and 2nd-Degree Rape after another employee reportedly caught him in the act of attempting to receive oral sex in the 69-year-old woman's room at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation in Clarkston on November 20th at about 2:40 a.m.

Area Law Enforcement to Participate in Emphasis Patrols to Prevent DUI's & Other Dangerous Driving Behaviors

LEWISTON, ID - Regional law enforcement agencies will be partnering to stop impaired driving with an emphasis patrol over the Memorial Day weekend.  Memorial Day through Labor Day is known as the "100 Deadliest Days" and historically it is the time of year when there are more deaths and serious injuries due to dangerous driving behaviors.

BREAKING NEWS: Bomb Threat at Second Lewiston Junior High School Today

LEWISTON, ID - UPDATE from Lewiston School District: The emergency evacuation of Sacajawea Junior High School was lifted at approximately 2:45 p.m. following a joint response, in accordance with the District’s School Bomb Protocol, by the Lewiston Police Department personnel and District Administration.


For the second time today, a Lewiston junior high school has been evacuated due to a bomb threat.  Sacajawea Junior High is under emergency evacuation at this time while law enforcement and school district officials search the school.  Evacuation was called at about 2:00 p.m.
