The Lewiston Fire Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Jared Miesen to Full-Time Firefighter on May 10th.

Jared has been with the department since June of 2011 and has served as a reserve firefighter. Jared worked as an interim full-time firefighter last year due to an extended injury and we are excited for him to join the permanent full time ranks.

Jared is a second generation Lewiston Firefighter, his father Rob Miesen retired in 2002 as the Division Chief of EMS.

On May 9th, 2020, at approximately 1520 hours, the Lewiston Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a citizen dispute and possible gunshot, which was occurring in the 1800 block of Powers Avenue. Callers told dispatchers that two men were seen in front of a residence, and one was possibly holding a pistol. Multiple callers also described hearing a single gun shot during the same time frame.

Narrative: On 5/9/2020 at 2:09PM The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office, The Sunnyside Fire Department, The Orofino Fire Department, and CPTPA responded to 1801 Old Peck Grade for a out of control wild land fire. The property owner Richard Kerschbaum had been burning yard waste on 5/8/2020. Kerschbaum stated he thought the fire was out. The fire rekindled and spread to approximately 1/2 acre, burning in steep rocky terrain. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire crews. There were no reported injuries and no property damaged.

Saturday Night High Speed Motorcycle Pursuit Ends Safely in Steptoe, WA.  Driver Later Booked on Several Charges Including Possession of Narcotics.   

COLFAX, WA- Saturday night at approximately 7:30 pm Deputy Tim Cox of the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office observed a motorcycle traveling southbound on SR 195 at speeds approaching 100 mph. Deputy Cox turned on the motorcyclist and activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the speeding biker.

East Access Of Mann Lake Near Lewiston Closed Until Further Notice

Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District (LOID) detected a relatively small amount of an unknown substance on the ground above the high water line on the east side of Mann Lake Reservoir. The substance is believed to have been dumped sometime during the evening hours of Thursday, May 7. To allow for cleanup of this material, the east access of Mann Lake will be closed until further notice. The west and north side will remain open to access. Please take precautions and do not enter the east side of Mann Lake. If anyone has information regarding this illegal activity, contact the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s office at (208) 799-3131.

LEWISTON, Idaho – Although the season was cut short, the Lewis-Clark State Women basketball team made the most of the time it had to put together a successful season. When all was said and done, LC State had a record of 21-10 and battled its way through the Frontier Conference Tournament for a second-place finish. Two Warriors earned All-American accolades along the way, and a strong foundation was set for next season.
