OLYMPIA, WA – Washington State’s Lieutenant Governor skipped the State of the State address because he felt vulnerable in a place where concealed carry is legal.  The Everett Herald reports Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib was supposed to preside over the meeting, but didn’t because citizens are allowed to carry concealed weapons in the public galleries.

PORTLAND, OR – If you’ve been to Portland International Airport recently, you could be at risk for measles.  Since January 1st, 16 cases have now been confirmed in Clark County, WA, but the major airport is one location that could have been contaminated.  You are at risk if you were there between 10:45 am and 3:45 pm on January 7th.

Poachers Kill Five Does

COLUMBIA COUNTY, WA – Someone poached several deer and Fish and Wildlife officers hope you can help them find the criminal.  The person or people killed five Whitetail does in the Wooten Wildlife Area.  The does were partially butchered and left at Campground Nine on the Wooten WLA Monday night or early Tuesday morning. 

Plastic Bag Ban Heads To Committee

OLYMPIA, WA – The bill that would ban plastic grocery bags has taken a step forward.  It’s now at the committee level.  House Bill 1205, sponsored by seven western-Washington representatives, would make the bags illegal to provide or sell to store customers in the state.

The bill cites pollution and the inability to decompose completely as the reason for the ban. 

Retail stores will still be able to provide specific kinds of bags that meet standards of recycled content and compostability.  There will be a minimum ten cent cost for each of those bags.

AHSAHKA, ID – You chance to get a standard trapping license is coming up this month.  January 26th, Idaho Fish & Game is hosting a class in Ahsahka.  If you haven’t purchased an Idaho trapping license prior to July 1st, 2011, you’ll have to attend and pass standard trapper education before you can get a license.

OROFINO, ID – A reminder that the 911 service could be down for up to three hours tonight in much of North-Central Idaho. Frontier Communications is repairing a fiber optic line along Highway 95 between Coeur D’Alene and Worley that was damaged by vandalism.  The planned outage starts at 11:00 pm and will last between 30 minutes and three hours.
