Tacoma Man Seriously Injured in Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision in Colfax

COLFAX, WA - A 32-year-old Tacoma man is in critical condition after he was struck by a pickup in Colfax.  The Whitman County Sheriff's Office says according to initial findings and witness information, Duy Nguyen was crossing Main Street on foot when he was struck by a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup that was turning southbound onto Main Street from Harrison Street.

Student Nutrition Bill Wins Washington State Senate Approval

OLYMPIA, WA - The Washington Kids Ready to Learn Act is one step closer to becoming law.  The measure, sponsored by Representative Monica Stonier (D-Vancouver), received a strong 43-5 vote in the Senate.  House Bill 1508, commonly referred to as the “Breakfast After the Bell” bill, would expand highly successful programs that help students from low-income families receive nutritious meals in the morning to more schools across the state.

Ohio Man Sentenced to 300 Months in Prison For Sexual Exploitation of Idaho Teens

BOISE, ID - A 35-year-old Ohio man who used a social media account to contact two minors in Valley County in 2015 was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 300  months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release.  According to a plea agreement, Timothy Raymond Schmidt of Cincinnati used Skype to communicate with the 13 and 17-year-old children from January 28th to April 9th of 2015.

Idaho Governor Signs Unemployment Tax Relief Bill; Employers to Save $115 Million Over Next Three Years

BOISE, ID - Idaho Governor Butch Otter has signed the first bill sent to him by the Idaho Legislature, immediately reducing unemployment insurance tax rates.  Officials say it will save Idaho employers about $115 million over the next three years.

Clif Bar & Company and King Arthur Flour Announce $1.5 Million Organic Endowment for Washington State University’s Bread Lab

EMERYVILLE, CA - Clif Bar & Company and the King Arthur Flour Company today announced the funding of a $1.5 million endowment for organic grain breeding research in Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences. This is Clif Bar’s second and King Arthur’s first public university endowment dedicated to developing crop varieties adapted to organic farming practices.

U of I is Growing With the Expansion of the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship Program

MOSCOW, ID - The University of Idaho is growing with the expansion of the Western Undergraduate Exchange scholarship program. It is extending to 16 States and Territories in the Northwest.

WUE is a multistate program that allows college students across the West to get reduced out-of-state tuition at participating colleges and universities.

Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests has a New Website for Public Comments

KAMIAH, ID - The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests has a new website where the public can submit comments on a preliminary evaluation of Recommended Wilderness Areas on the forest.

From the NP-CNF's:
Currently, the Nez Perce-Clearwater Forest Plan Revision Team is evaluating wilderness characteristics of inventoried roadless areas to determine which areas may be recommended for Wilderness designation in the revised Forest Plan.
