Lewiston Police Officer's Patrol Vehicle Rear-Ended on Bryden Canyon Road While Assisting Motorist Who Ran Out of Gas

LEWISTON, ID - A Lewiston Police Officer was treated and released at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center this morning after his patrol vehicle was hit by a 2006 Dodge Durango on Bryden Canyon Road.  Officer Tyler Crane was assisting a stranded motorist whose SUV ran out of gas at about 8:29 a.m.

Man Rescued After Pickup Crashes Into Rain-Swollen Creek

Officials say alcohol may have been a factor

PECK, ID - A 31-year-old man was rescued overnight after his pickup went into the rain-swollen Big Canyon Creek in Peck.  The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office says they received a 911 call regarding the incident at about 10:00 p.m.  Dustin Fowler was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are unknown at this time, but officials say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

New Reading-Readiness Program Dubbed "Smarty Ants" Available Next Week

BOISE, ID - Beginning next week all 4-year-olds in the state of Idaho will have access to a free online animated, interactive, reading-readiness program dubbed "Smarty Ants" through a five-year grant agreement between the State Department of Education and the online literacy program Achieve 3000.

From the Idaho State Dept.of Education:
The State Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to accept the grant, and the online portal for the program is scheduled to go live Tuesday, April 10.

Salmon River Ranger District Will Hold Public Meeting Wed.

GRANGEVILLE, ID - The Salmon River Ranger District will hold a public meeting on Wednesday at the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests office at 104 Airport Road in Grangeville from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. They will be discussing the Hungry Ridge Restoration project.

Those who attend the meeting will have the opportunity to submit written comments, contribute information, ideas, or concerns, and discuss the project with members of the Forest Service Interdisciplinary Team.

Latah County Historical Society is Looking for local Authors, Poets, & Storytellers

MOSCOW, ID - The Latah County Historical Society is looking for local authors, poets, and storytellers who would like to participate in one of three “Campfire Tales” sessions this summer. Each one of these “Campfire Tales” events will feature several readings from local authors, told over a campfire at the historic McConnell Mansion.

Attendees are asked to bring blankets or camping chairs and acoustic instruments if they have them to play around the fire after the readings have concluded. These events are FREE and family-friendly; s’mores fixings will be provided.
