Idaho Land Management Agencies to Implement Additional Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

GRANGEVILLE, ID – With little to no precipitation in the forecast and the current fire danger level listed as "extreme" across the Grangeville Dispatch Zone, land management agencies will implement additional Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in the Grangeville Fire Restrictions Area, Uplands beginning at midnight tonight.

IDFG Closes Steelhead Fishing Due to Low Numbers

LEWISTON, ID - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is closing all rivers to harvest for the fall steelhead season due to an extremely small number of the fish returning to Idaho so far.  Through yesterday, about 400 steelhead have crossed Lower Granite Dam about 30 miles downstream from Lewiston. The 10-year average for that date is approximately 6,000 steelhead.

Asotin County Man Arrested For Alleged Assault

CLARKSTON, WA - A 30-year-old Clarkston man who allegedly threatened to kill a woman and damaged several pieces of property in their home while "of high intoxication" in front of two young children late Saturday night was arrested by Asotin County Sheriff's Deputies.  Michael Leon Smith was booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of Harassment Threats to Kill-Domestic Violence, 4th-Degree Assault-Domestic Violence, 3rd-Degree Malicious Mischief-Domestic Violence, Reckless Endangerment-Domestic Violence, Obstruction a Law Enforcement Officer, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Local Woman Arrested For Alleged Possession of Stolen Pickup

CLARKSTON, WA - A 33-year-old woman was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly being in possession of a stolen pickup, attempting to sell its canopy on two local Facebook pages, and a drug charge.  Amanda Debord, also known as Amanda Baldwin, was booked into the Asotin County Jail on charges of 2nd-Degree Possession of Stolen Property, 1st-Degree Trafficking Stolen Property, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

ID Dept. of Environmental Quality Will Offer Free Nitrate Screenings for Private Well Owners

COTTONWOOD, ID - The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality will offer a free nitrate screening for private well owners at the Idaho County Fair on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 3:00 p.m.

From the DEQ:
Nitrate, a chemical form of nitrogen found naturally in small amounts in soil and ground water, is the most widespread contaminant in Idaho ground water.

Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Fire Update

KAMIAH, ID - Although new fires were discovered as a result of approximately 150 lightning strikes during Saturday night’s thunderstorm, light rain over most of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests on Sunday helped in the firefighting effort.  Officials say they are patrolling the forests because undetected fires are likely to become active as temperatures increase, relative humidity decreases, and fuels dry over the coming week.

Update on Hanover Fire

GRANGEVILLE, ID - The 7,783-acre Hanover Fire is now 25% contained with the estimated full containment date being October 15th.  A total of 313 personnel are working on the fire, which started August 1st and is burning south of Grangeville and northeast of Riggins.
