Medical Student at the U of I's WWAMI Medical Education Program is Working to Supply Fever Facts Cards & Thermometers to Low-Income Households

PULLMAN, WA - A second year medical student at the University of Idaho’s WWAMI Medical Education Program, Nick Rasmussen, is working to supply Fever Facts Cards and thermometers to low-income households in Whitman County. Rasmussen's project is part of the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Rural Underserved Opportunity Program in which medical students design a project that addresses health needs in their local communities.

WSDOT is Asking for the Public's Input

OLYMPIA, WA - The Washington State Department of Transportation is asking for the public's input on a 20-year plan of the Washington Transportation Plan, Phase 2 – Implementation now through November 6th.

From the WSDOT:
The plan builds on WTP Phase 1, which established a 20-year vision for the statewide multimodal transportation system. Phase 1 highlighted emerging trends and challenges facing the state’s transportation system and developed recommendations for meeting those challenges.

WTP Phase 2 implements recommendations from Phase 1 through four focus areas and 11 action items to achieve the 20-year vision established in Phase 1.

Fire Prevention Week

OLYMPIA, WA - Fire Prevention week starts today and continues through Saturday. The Washington State Fire Marshal's Office is joining forces with the National Fire Protection Association along with fire agencies and safety advocates nationwide to educate the public about the critical importance of developing a home escape plan and practicing it.

From the State Fire Marshal’s Office:
A home escape plan includes working smoke alarms on every level of the home, in every bedroom, and near all sleeping areas. It also includes two ways out of every room, usually a door and a window, with a clear path to an outside meeting place (like a tree, light pole, or mailbox) that is a safe distance from the home.

One Person Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Cattle Truck Crash on Waha Road

LEWISTON, ID - One person was killed and another seriously injured in a crash on Waha Road this afternoon.  The Idaho State Police says Robert Parkins of Troy, Idaho was driving northbound in a 1986 Kenworth pulling a trailer filled with cattle when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve and lost control of the truck at about 2:53 p.m.  Officials say 20 cows died at the scene.

LEWISTON, ID - UPDATE: Jacob Taylor was arrested at about 7:45 a.m. this morning following a traffic stop in the 800 block of 3rd Street in Lewiston.

The Lewiston Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 28-year-old man accused of armed robbery.  Transient Jacob Vincent Taylor has three warrants for his arrest.  The charges include Burglary, Robbery, and Kidnapping.

Pet Microchipping Clinic, Bake Sale, & Pet Food Drive Tomorrow at Bob's Pet & Pond in Lewiston

LEWISTON, ID - A pet microchip clinic, bake sale, and pet food drive will take place tomorrow at Bob's Pet and Pond, 1035 21st Street in Lewiston.  Zeus's Friends, Lost and Found Pet Network says the microchip clinic will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., while the bake sale and pet food drive will be from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  All money and food collected will be used to help animals in need.

Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport Receives Automated Body Scanner

LEWISTON, ID - Travelers who use the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport will find a major change in security in the near future.  Transportation Security Administration teams showed
up at the airport Tuesday evening with an AIT-2, the official term for what has come to be known as the “body scanner.”  It will be placed into commission following some training.

Wind Advisory in Effect Until Tomorrow Evening

SPOKANE, WA - The National Weather Service says there is a Wind Advisory in effect from 2:00 p.m. today through 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.  Winds are expected to be around 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts in excess of 45 mph.

The University of Idaho is postponing its homecoming fireworks show scheduled for this evening, as well as canceling Idaho Fan Zone activities tomorrow, because of predicted high winds.

The traditional bonfire tonight will be scaled back, and a final decision about lighting the fire will be made at about 8:30 p.m. based on wind conditions.

LCSC Will Host a ‘150 Years of Idaho Latino History’ Event

LEWISTON, ID - Lewis-Clark State College will host a ‘150 Years of Idaho Latino History’ event on Wednesday at the Meriwether Lewis Hall, Room 100 beginning at 6:00 p.m. LCSC will welcome musicians and composers Juan Manuel Barco of Seattle and Bonifacio Dominguez of Lewiston, along with cultural activist and singer Ana Maria Schachtell of Boise to the event.
