SPOKANE – In response to an increased fire risk and nationally depleted firefighting resources, all eastern Washington wildlife areas, including water access areas within wildlife areas, managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will be open for day use only, starting Friday, July 23.

The Leland Complex Fire is comprised of four fires. The Sand Mountain Fire is 2.5 miles east of Laird Park, Latah County Idaho, and the Johnson Creek Fire which is 4 miles north of Elk River, Idaho are the two largest fires in the complex. All together the fires have burned 2,931 acres with both of the larger fires at 0% containment.
