LEWISTON, ID - Yesterday morning we were contacted by a mother who knew her 5-year-old daughter would be sad when she awoke to find a thief had taken their inflatable outdoor Christmas ornaments.  We posted a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for the person who had stolen them.  Within two hours the owner of Denver's Window Shine offered to replace the stolen items.

LEWISTON, ID – Protesters of the steelhead season closure are gathering this weekend to make a statement.   Sunday outfitters, guides, businesses, community organizations, and local fisherman are bringing their trailered boats to the Port of Lewiston.  The group will proceed through town, ending at the Southway Boat ramp to let the anti-steelhead fishing groups from Western Washington, Boise, and Moscow know that these Idahoans aren’t happy.

LEWISTON, ID – The search is underway for the new Manager of the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport.  At last night’s Airport Authority Board meeting, the group selected Gary Peters to head the hunt for the best-possible person for the job.  The board is considering hiring a professional firm to do the searching.  A figure of $35,000 was thrown out as a potential cost to hire someone else to do it.  Other board members were vocal in their agreement that it’s worth the money to search the country.

ASOTIN, WA – Asotin Firefighters rushed to the 800 block of 3rd Street yesterday to report of smoke in a family’s home.  When they arrived, firefighters found smoke coming from the windows and eaves. 

New Lewiston Library Director Chosen

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Library has a new Director.  Yesterday the Library Board of Trustees voted to appoint Lynn Johnson as the new head of the library. 

Johnson is the District Librarian for the Mountain View School District.  That covers school libraries in Grangeville, Kooskia, and Elk City. She is also a member of the second cohort of Lilead Fellows, a national fellowship for the development of leadership in school librarians.

One Drug Bust Leads To Another

CLARKSTON, WA – One drug bust led to another yesterday in Asotin County.  Quad Cities Drug Task Force detectives say they executed a search warrant in the 2200 block of Appleside Boulevard yesterday afternoon.

A press release says they found more than 52 grams of methamphetamine that had been packaged into 15 separate baggies for individual sale, glass meth smoking pipes, meth smoking water bongs, scales, and packaging material.

Fentanyl Overdoses Rising In Washington

OLYMPIA, WA – Overdoses from fentanyl are rising in Washington State.  The Department of Health reports they’re finding illicit fentanyl in new forms and that’s causing an increasing number of overdose deaths.

In the first half of this year there were 81 deaths linked to fentanyl versus 48 deaths in the same time last year.  That’s an increase of 70%.

LEWISTON, ID – A 5-year-old girl is sad this morning because someone stole her inflatable Christmas ornaments last night.  The family put them outside their house and footprints in the icy grass show that someone walked in from the street and stole them during the night.  They live on 29th Street near 8th Avenue.  If you know anything about them, contact the LPD.  The girl’s mom has filed a police report.

Local Author Hopes Book Will Help Inmates

CULDESAC, ID – A local author is hoping she can help inmates have a better Christmas.  Kathleen Marchant wrote a book called “The Great Escape: Redeemed For Life”.  The Bible study details the struggles of people both behind bars and people struggling from what she calls metaphorical prisons.  Marchant says ministering to people in these prisons has become her “purpose”.

LEWISTON, ID – A former Lewiston man is behind bars in California today on charges of sex offense involving a 16-year-old Lewiston girl.  LPD Investigators say 24-year-old Jessie Daniel Barnes and the victim exchanged numerous sexually explicit photos and videos between October and December this year.

OTHELLO, WA - The work on State Route 26 east of Othello, WA will take a "another couple weeks" according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Here's a shot of recent work on the overpass that lets traffic drive over the railroad tracks.
