LEWISTON - Betty White always had a deep love for animals, and compassion to help others. She worked with shelters, zoos and more, all while having a plethora of animals of her own. The “Betty White Challenge” calls for donations to be made to animal rescues and shelters on her 100th birthday, Monday, January 17.

In 2007, the Nez Perce Tribe Fisheries Program’s Pacific lamprey restoration team, led by the late Elmer Crow, released a group of lamprey into Newsome Creek, a small tributary of the South Fork Clearwater River in Idaho. They had been collected from the lower Columbia River and transported 400 miles upriver to spare them from the risky journey passing the remaining dams and increasing their likelihood of reproducing.

BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Board approved a plan to issue bonds as a part of Governor Brad Little’s $1.6 billion “Leading Idaho” initiative that passed in House Bill 362 in 2021. The initiative focuses on major safety and expansion projects across the state in the next eight years. The board approved the plan during its regular monthly business meeting Thursday, January 13 in Boise.

OLYMPIA --The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is seeing an increase in the number of “vaccine breakthrough” cases related to the recent increase in overall cases statewide. Even with the increase in breakthrough infections, data continue to show that vaccination is highly protective against hospitalization and death from COVID-19.
