Cheney, WA – Overnight crews continued their mop-up operations on the fire. The overall goal for mop-up is to work 200 feet in from the perimeter of the fire line and 500 feet out from structures. Today, crews will continue mopping up and clearing dangerous trees from the perimeter that have been deemed a hazard due to fire activity.  Cooler weather and low winds are expected today.

Asotin County – State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Asotin Complex Fire located in Asotin County, near Clarkston.  The Asotin Complex Fire is currently burning in vegetation.  Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on July 7, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the request of Fire Chief Noel Hardin, Asotin County Fire District 1.

Dixie Fire Exceeds 7,000 Acres as Firefighters Continue Suppression Efforts

KAMIAH, Idaho: July 7, 2021—Firefighting resources are still engaged in suppression operations on the Dixie fire, located 40 miles southeast of Grangeville and 15 miles south of Elk City near the community of Dixie. The fire is estimated to be about 7,000 acres at 7 a.m. (PDT) on July 7. The fire has continued to burn actively and spread in all directions, and fire managers are anticipating that will be the case today as well. Today, aviation and ground resources are focusing their efforts on structure protection and improving the roads and fuel breaks near the communities of Dixie and Comstock

Andrus Fire Now Estimated 20% Contained

Cheney, WA – The Andrus Fire started Monday morning at approximately 11:30 am near Andrus Rd. The fire spread quickly due to low relative humidity and unseasonably dry conditions. After a more accurate assessment of the perimeter Wednesday the acreage is approximately 225, with 20% containment.  Firefighters from Fire District 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, Airway Heights Fire, Spokane City Fire, Spokane Valley Fire, Lincoln County, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and numerous other agencies were critical in slowing the spread of the fire. The collaborative efforts and teamwork between the agencies were critical in slowing fire spread and protecting lives and property.

UPDATE - Tuesday, July 6, 2021, as a result of the ongoing investigation and the completion of the autopsies, victims of the fire have been positively identified as 35-year-old Jennifer Patricia Brink and 36-year-old Jeffrey Nelson both from Lewiston, Idaho.

Monday Morning Incident Lands Two in Jail for Assault and Robbery

COLFAX, WA- Approximately 3:30 am on Monday morning Deputies, assisted by WSU Police Officers, responded to Horn School Rest Area near Rosalia, WA after being notified of a potential robbery and assault.  Deputies contacted the victim who told officers he had been traveling with two females, whom he had recently met when one of them stole his wallet and drove away with the other female. The victim, who was traveling in his own vehicle, told officers he stopped at the rest area for what he thought was going to be a romantic encounter when instead he was robbed.

Hayden, Idaho - On Saturday, July 3 at around 8:35 p.m. Deputies responded to 8967 Runkle Road for a report of a domestic between a female and male.  Upon contact with the victim, it was learned the male had physically battered her and attempted to strangle her until she was able to get free and go to a neighbor’s residence.
