90 10th-Graders to Take part in New Manufacturing Pilot Program

LEWISTON, ID - Lewis-Clark State College will have 90 north-central Idaho 10th-graders take part in a new manufacturing pilot program to earn a Northwest Intermountain Metal Manufacturing industry-recognized credential while in high school.

From LCSC:
The program, titled “Technical Career Pathways to Rural Manufacturing Using a Sector Approach to Support the Northwest Intermountain Metal Manufacturers,” will entail the recruitment of 60 students to be trained for mechanical computer aided design and drafting (CADD) technician positions and 30 students to be trained for electro-mechanical positions.

Mills Adler Award Presented to Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Pall

BOISE, ID - The Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association presented this year’s Mills Adler award to Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Pall last month in Boise. Pall's lifetime of commitment to public service, his prior work in dispute resolution, and the diverse responsibilities as the sole Prosecutor for Lewis County were higlighted at the meeting.

 

Local Forestry & Fire Grants Available

COEUR D’ALENE, ID - There are local forestry and fire grants available for non-profit groups, local and state agencies, tribes, and educational institutions. The Landscape Scale Restoration, Western Fire Managers, and Hazard Fuels Reduction Grants fund activities that support local or state initiatives and address issues identified in county wildfire protection plans or the Idaho Forest Action Plan.

The Idaho Forest Action Plan is a long-term, coordinated strategy for reducing threats to Idaho’s forests while increasing the social, economic and environmental benefits they provide.

Deadline for Taxpayers who Filed Extensions is Oct. 16th

BOISE, ID - The deadline for taxpayers that filed an extension for their 2016 Idaho state income taxes is October 16th.

From the Idaho State Tax Commission:
Idaho law allows these taxpayers to avoid a penalty for late filing, but they’ll be charged 3 percent interest on any tax that was due and not paid by April 18.
 
“We expect about 25,000 individual income tax returns to be filed,” said Renee Eymann, public information officer for the Tax Commission.

Daily Travel Impacts Along Square Mountain/Gospel Road

KAMIAH, ID - The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests have sold the Hanover Decks timber sale which is located on the Salmon River Ranger District. There will be daily travel impacts along Square Mountain/Gospel Road also known as Forest Service road 444.

From the NP-CNF:
While FSR 444 has re–opened to the public following a previous area closure due to the Hanover fire, timber operations associated with the Hanover Decks timber sale will result in travel impacts on portions of FSR 444 where there is insufficient room to safely allow vehicle passage while trucks are being loaded.

WWCC to Celebrate Workforce & Business Development Center Grand Opening

CLARKSTON, WA - Walla Walla Community College will celebrate the grand opening of the Workforce and Business Development Center on Monday. There will be an open house beginning at 3:00 p.m.and a grand opening ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

Free Stay at Campgrounds on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Sat.

KAMIAH, ID - Visitors can have a free stay at campgrounds on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests during National Public Lands Day on Saturday.

From NP-CNF:
The forest is waiving campground fees at all fee campgrounds on September 30 as a part of the nation–wide celebration of public lands. (Regular fees still apply at reserved campsites.)

In addition to being a “fee–free day,” National Public Lands Day brings together hundreds of thousands of volunteers for a variety of projects on public lands.
