BOISE, ID – Governor “Butch” Otter lit the Christmas Tree in front of the state Capitol yesterday.  Thousands of people turned out to watch the twinkle lights come on.  The Governor and Mrs. Otter celebrated afterward by handing out books, hot apple cider, and treats to kids who attended.

WA DNR Hiring Temporary Firefighters

OLYMPIA, WA – This year was one of the busiest for wildland firefighters.  The Washington State Department of Natural Resources is already hiring for next year.  Many of their firefighters responded locally to the Nisqually John Fire just downriver from Chief Timothy Park.  During the fire, they stayed in tents at the school in Colton.

CLARKSTON, WA – Firefighters jumped out of bed last night to respond to a home fire on 13th Street in Asotin County.  The fire consumed a mobile home at 1630 13th Street.  The call went out at 2:18 am.  Crews from Lewiston Fire also responded to the call through the Auto-Aid program.

LEWISTON, ID – LEWISTON, ID – If you were driving in Lewiston today, you probably saw several fire engines, trucks, and ambulances headed out into the Orchards.  Firefighters rushed to a shop fire at 9:33 this morning.  Flames and smoke were showing from the building behind 1418 Birch Avenue when they arrived.  The first crew was able to quickly knock down the main fire within a few minutes.

LEWISTON, ID – Someone shot a buck from Tammany Creek Road and Conservation Officers are hoping you can help them find the poacher.  It happened Saturday, November 10th around 3:45 pm.  The mule deer buck was shot from the roadway and died in a hay field not far from there.

No Garbage Collection on Thursday

LEWISTON, ID – Don’t put your garbage out on Thursday if you live in Lewiston.  The collection folks will be enjoying Thanksgiving at home.  They’ll be back to work on Friday though.  So if your collection day is Thursday or Friday, they’ll be there a day later than usual.  This also goes for yard waste bins.

Earthquake Near Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE, ID – An earthquake about 10 miles northeast of Grangeville rattled Idaho County this afternoon.  The U.S. Geological Survey says it happened at 2:39 pm.  The magnitude 4.1 quake was 13.3 kilometers down in the Earth.  The U.S.G.S. says it radiated through Kamiah, into Orofino, and nearly the Lewiston Orchards. 

Juliaetta Awarded $30,000 For Wastewater Plan

JULIAETTA, ID – Juliaetta’s wastewater system is getting an upgrade.  The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has announced that the town will get a grant for $30,000.  The funds will be used to prepare planning documents and an environmental review for the wastewater system.  The funds will also identify any needed improvements.
